Hand Basin vs Wash Basin: Which is More Hygienic?

Both hand basins and wash basins can be hygienic when they are installed correctly and cleaned regularly. The difference is usually not the name of the basin, but how the basin is used, how much water splashes around it and how easy the surface is to maintain.

A smaller hand basin can work well in a powder room or guest bathroom because it is used mainly for hand washing. A larger wash basin may be better for a main bathroom where users need more bowl space for daily routines.

For better hygiene, choose a basin with a smooth surface, suitable depth and easy access around the tap and drain. Regular cleaning and good ventilation are more important than the label of the basin itself.
